Kanye has never been a rapper with the technical nor linguistic gifts of the likes of Nas, Eminem, or Big Pun, but anyone who says he’s a “bad rapper” is missing the point. What Kanye is gifted at is the creation of memorable punchlines. Images. Like all great poets, he eschews technical savvy in favor of hyper-loaded phrases that imprint unto the listener’s brain. Double entendres, similes, metaphors and a whole lot of jokes. Let’s face it: Kanye is one of the funniest rappers that has ever lived.
“I stuck my fist in her like a civil rights sign”
“I need a new beginning, and a happy ending”
“So much head, I woke up to Sleepy Hollow”
And of course: “I AM A GOD”
