Lol this article is the epitome of fart smelling costal "intellectualism".
A lot of nothing is said here.
The only thing I derived from this word salad garbage is that the author seems intent on using mental gymnastics to justify why he enjoys this show; but then he feels the urge to share it with the world.
Problem is hiwever, that his sophistry is on full display.
groomer discourse makes me wanna swallow cyanide at this point lol. my dad took me to see marilyn manson when i was 9 and i turned out all right (mostly), groomer discourse has the whiffs of moral panic to it. i mean, buffy the vampire slayer could be argued to be a groomer series given the fact that 10/10 beauties like Sarah Michelle Gellar and Charisma Carpenter were playing teens and having sex but it's still a great show and one that's imminently relatable because we remember our own hormonal tendencies at that age
sure, when it comes to pointing out the psychosis of trans ideology and LGBT ideology and the inculcation of kids, it makes sense to. When it comes to not being able to enjoy one of the first legit works of pop art to sneak into the mainstream I lose interest. I'm very pro enjoyment.
Television and pop culture clearly plays a powerful role in shaping behaviour and even psychology. Do moral standards apply to what television depicts or representations in general? I think it is true that there are different forms of enjoyment and some are extremely destructive. From this point of view, some form of censorship becomes unavoidable. This is the conclusion that Plato reaches when he says that poetry “feeds and waters the passions instead of drying them up; she lets them rule, although they ought to to be controlled, if mankind are ever to increase in happiness and virtue.”
You seem to be arguing that aesthetic merit suspends any ethical question, but from Plato's perspective the reverse would be true: art in the service of moral subversion would represent the most dangerous enemy, precisely because of its aesthetic power.
just genuinely don't think Euphoria is part of a groomer conspiracy nor do I think that article manages to make its case without leaning into hysteria (which it even seems to admit it does on a couple occasions). Reality TV and mindless, artless trash does more to damage Western minds than a show that is just brutally unflinching in its portrayal of sex. What struck me as most powerful about the series is how much it reminded me just how decadent my life was at ages 17 and 18. It's the Bret Easton Ellis sensibility.
Similar to casting a Disney Channel alum as it's lead, Eric Dane's casting iz itself a bit of cheeky coding - the star may be unknown to artheadsz but he iz very well known to soap opera audiences. For around a decade he was 'McSteamy' on American network TVz biggest primetime soap. And his bro-for-life on that show was Patrick Dempsey's 'Derek' same namesake as Cal's lover.
BS? Yep. BS.

Are there not occasions to morally panic?

I suppose I could have done a IMDB search but the mystery would have been dampened!
