Congrats on the Tablet job! It is one of the few open minded journalist outlets out there, especially during the pandemic I really appreciated a lot of what they put out.
I hope you will still do these journal entries. I find myself nodding in agreement with so many of the points you make in these and there a lot of great movie a book recommendations.
For instance, your point on Luigi, I'm amazed at how so many on the left - and not just the establishment Democrat left but also the more intelligent part of the left who can see through identity politics (for instance see the redscarepod subreddit) - have turned a guy who shot a man in the back into their hero. It makes me think that there are huge numbers of people carrying around an existential dread just below the surface, and in order to not have to face it they rally around the ritual scapegoating of a perceived bad guy who can be the outlet for all of their pain.
But anyways, I always appreciate your writing on here, keep up the great work, and happy 2025!
2024 was the year of top 10 grossing films all being sequels or remakes, yet we have 4-5 (haven’t seen Apprentice) really good, and dynamic films this year that feel like they have all the buzz. It seems like mainstream and art engaging audiences are departing but it might actually be for the best, no longer having to split the difference
Congrats on the Tablet editor role and I enjoyed reading your journal bits and bobs.
All da best for 2025!!!
Cool news about the Tablet job, the least you deserve!
Thank you Nina !
